Historically, the dreaded criminals of UP had operated
with impunity in Uttaranchal. In the last one year, 15
dreaded criminals were shot dead in police encounters
and 9 valiant policemen lay down their lives in the line
of duty. |

The sensational killings of elephants in Corbett National
Park had generated widespread concern. To its credit,
Udham Singh Nagar Police cracked the case leading to the
arrest of 8 gang members and recovery of a sizeable quantity
of ivory worth lakhs in the international market. |
3. The
murder of MP Phoolan Devi in New Delhi had shocked the nation.
Within a week Uttaranchal Police had tracked and arrested
the prime accused and his associates and handed them over
to Delhi Police. The elaborate alibi they had constructed
was exposed and key elements of the conspiracy were uncovered
due to the diligent efforts of the investigators of Uttaranchal
Police.
4. In
the last decades millions of ordinary citizens have lost their
life savings to unscruplous con men. In one such case, Uttaranchal
Police successfully tracked and arrested former cricketer
Manoj Prabhakar who was wanted in several states for fraud
in connection with his finance companies.
5. The
notorious criminal Prakash Pande, who ran a successful extortion
and kidnapping racket with ties to major mafia dons, was arrested
by Nainital Police. Sustained investigation have led to the
uncovering and destruction of his network of crime.
The above
examples give only a brief glimpse of the range of activities
and achievements of the department in the last one year. But
they amply illustrate the commitment the department and its
leadership have made to provide a police force that is prepared
to overcome any challenge or expectations the people have
of it.
