1. Each year, UP Police would depute 1000 men to the hill districts to cope with the rush of tourists during the holiday season. This is 10% of the total force available in Uttaranchal. This year, Uttaranchal Police rose to the challenge and managed the flow of tourists without any dependance on outside agencies. A feedback system was introduced and tourists have greatly appreciated the efforts of the department.

2. With the creation of the state, there was a new set of important functionaries and vital installations that needed security cover. Elaborate arrangements have been made by the intelligence wing to protect important functionaries and installations of the state government. Remarkably, this need has been met from existing resources underlining the commitment of the police leadership to work frugally within the capabilities of the state.

3. Each year Haridwar is host to a number of important religious festivals that attract millions of people from all across the country and the world. This year the Kanwar mela in Haridwar and the Shravan mela in Pauri were conducted smoothly without any outside assistance.

4. The Tehri Dam project is of vital significance to ensuring the economic viability of the state. The site of the dam has been subject to a prolonged agitation that has attracted international interest. The agitation was handled with great sensitivity and skill by Tehri police and as a result the project is close to completion of the first phase.

5. As the provisional capital, Dehradun has become the focus of many agitations and protests. To date all of these have been handled tactfully and effectively in a manner that has earned the respect and confidence of the general public. The police is no longer seen as an instrument of blind coercion, but as a fair and courteous upholder of the law.

6. Each year Uttaranchal suffers from a variety of natural and man-made disasters. This year there was a severe landslide in Rudraprayag and a cloud burst in Tehri. On Both occasions the police responded with promptness and determination.
