A modern well-equipped Police Headquarters has been set
up on 12, Subhash Road. It houses the office of the DGP,
his principal staff officers and their subordinate staff.
It also boasts of a state-of-the-art conference room.

A detailed review of the cadre structure of the leadership
has been undertaken. Senior officers have been earmarked
to oversee key areas of police working and internal administration.
Through them, effective supervision of the districts has
begun to enable the police to reflect and act on the priorities
of the state government and the people. |

In view of the limited resources of the state, a detailed
manpower audit is also underway to enable a more cost-effective
and rational deployment of the force. As part of this
exercise, 2000 constables were recruited in the month
of September. The exercise was conducted in a manner that
has won public acclaim for its impartiality and transparency.
Further recruitment is planned alongwith hiring ex-serviceman
on a contract basis. |

4. A modernization
plan has been prepared and set in motion with the support
of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India. Over
a period of five years, Uttaranchal police will be equipped
with the latest in technology in areas ranging from mobility
to communications to weaponery. This will enable it to discharge
its duties in a more effective and efficient manner.
5. The
image of the police has been a key area of concern for the
leadership. To create a bond of trust and friendship with
the public, the department has adopted the motto "Uttaranchal
Police- Your Friend". Systematic efforts have been made
to translate this into everyday practice through intiatives
to encourage greater interaction with the public in the field
of traffic regulation, environmental awareness and human rights.
The uniform has been changed to convey a more friendly and
less authoritarian image.
