Entry into the  Indian Police Service
Eligibility
Age: 30 years
Qualification:  Graduation

     To join the prestigeous Indian Police Service one has to appear in the Combined Civil Service Examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission every year. The advertisements for this Examination are given out in major national dailies and are also available at Employment Exchanges. The candidates thus selected will be allotted to Indian Police Service as per the merit. The allotment of Cadres is made by the Union Government.
     Officers of State Police Services also get promoted to the Indian Police Service according to the rules prescribed by Uttaranchal Government and ratification by the Union Public Service Commission.

ntry at the  level of Dy. SP's

Eligibility
Age: 34 years
Qualification:  Graduation
Pay Scales: Rs.7220-220-8100-275-10300-340-11600+Spl.pay- Rs. 600/- P.M.
      Direct entry at the level of Dy. S.P. is through a competitive examination held by the Uttaranchal Public Service Commission every year as part of the Uttaranchal Civil Services Exams. The Dy. S.P. , thus appointed undergo basic training of 1 year and 9 month duration and after completion of their basic training, they are given regular postings. Further information can be obtained from the advertisements of Uttaranchal Public Service Commission.
     Some vacancies at the Dy. S.P. level are also filled through promotions from the ranks of NGOs. The number of such vacancies are determined by the State Govt.

      Confirmed Inspectors who are Graduates are eligible for promotion to the rank of Dy. S.P. However, one time relaxation is also being given to matriculates by the Govt.
      Reservation for SC/ST/OBC - according to the existing   State Govt. Policy.

      Direct entry at the level of ASI/SI/Inspector is also through a competitive examination held by the Uttaranchal Public Service Commission every year as part of the Uttaranchal Civil Services Exams. The NGOs, thus appointed undergo a basic training of 9 months duration . Further information can be obtained from the advertisements of Uttaranchal Public Service Commission.
      After completion of basic training the NGOs are given practical training by deputing them at various posts in the Police department. Thereafter they are given regular postings.

  • ASI to Sub Inspector
Criteria for promotion course for ASIs are as under:-
      In case of promotee ASIs, he must have completed 4 years of service after passing the promotion course for Head Constables and in the case of directly recruited ASIs, he must have completed 5 years of service after being recurited.
  • Sub Inspector to Inspector
Confirmed SIs having 5 years of service are eligible for consideration for promotion to the rank of Inspector. Promotion are made on the basis of Merit-cum-Seniority.

      Constables are recruited as and when the vacancies arise in every districts, by the concerned  Suptd. of Police. Name of the candidates who are registered by the respective  Employment Exchange are eligible for recruitment.

Promotional Avenues
  • Constable to Head Constable
    Promotion to the rank of HC are made on the basis of competitive B-I Test. Constables with 5 years of service are eligible to appear in the B-I Test. On the basis of merit , Constables thus selected are deputed for Lower School Course and then posted as Head Constables as and when the vacancies arise.
  • Head Constable to ASI
    Selection for promotion course for Head Constables are made in the following order of Inter-Se-Seniority
                  1. Confirmed Head Constables.
               2. Head Constable on Probation and
               3. Officiating Head Constable who have put in 5 years of continous in service.
