II. Why Training?
In achievement of its overall goal of performance improvement, training must contribute to the enhancement
of professional knowledge, understanding, and skills both at individual and collective levels.
Enhancement of knowledge leads to building up of confidence in individuals while enhancement of skills
contributes to improvement in competence of the concerned personnel. However, it is the inculcation
of the right attitudes, which imbues the individual with a sense of commitment that is crucial for
determining the actual performance levels. The development of right attitudes among civil service
officers including police has become extremely difficult due to enhancement of age at all the entry
levels. Making the three requirements - Knowledge, Attitude and Skill a Habit is a must and it is easy to
remember them by remembering the word "KASH" - Knowledge; Attitude; Skill and Habit. It should also
equip the constituents of an organisation for appropriate response to emerging challenges. <<Back
